Burberry Presents: Art of the Trench

Burberry's Art of the Trench is a new website whose aim is to chronicle the past, present and the future of the iconic wardrobe staple: the Burberry trench coat. The goal of the site is to "create a body of images reflecting personal style from across the globe". The site is full of street style photos taken world wide, and offers anyone and everyone the opportunity to post pictures of themselves in their trench. You can become a part of Burberry's history by wearing a piece of their history.

Art of the Trench has also reached out and commissioned (ma fave) Scott Schuman of the The Sartorialist for their inaugurate collection of "trench portraits". In true Schuman fashion, the pictures capture the ease and beauty of fashion on the street. Art of the Trench has many future collaborations with  fashion photographers in the works which I am super excited to see!

Burberry is is marketing the trench not only as an iconic peice, but also a social networking tool. The site is interactive with features allowing fans to comment and share on the pictures posted. There are also links to Facebook, Twitter, and Delicious. In doing this, Art of the Trench encourages you to connect and share online. In this way, those of us who aren't lucky enough to own their own trench can get in on some of the goodies.

A time line that documents the history of the coat is accompanied by a virtual archive of press clippings, displays, and vintage ad campaigns illustrating that the trench truly does have a place in history that transcends the realm of fashion. Though the trench has inevitably evolved throughout the years, Burberry has remained remarkably true to its roots
