For designers by designers is the philosophy of Design Porn

The official design portal for AmoebaCorp, a design firm based in Toronto (what! what!?). It's full of inspiration. Anything from music, photography, fashion, interiors, illustrations, blah blah blahh

The brain! The brain! The center of the chain!

April 2010 is sure to bring about many positive things: graduation, retiring my tights/going bare-legged, some much deserved sunshine, and most notably the re-release of of my favourite childhood series The Babysitters Club(!!!!!!)

Ohhh Anne M. Martin. How you cut to my core and made me realize the importance of friendship, family, celebrating our differences, and childcare.

In keeping with the Baby Sitters Club theme, my dear friend Miriam showed me this gem of a blog a few weeks back. The author of the blog takes note from the sassiest BSC member Claudia, and reinterprets her style with a modern spin. Essentially what Claud wore, and would wear today.

Like Claudia Kishi, Miriam has always been my friend who dictated cool. She is a go-to for music, style and laughs; oozing effortless hip-ness and rocking bangs better than Zooey Deschanel (a hard thing to do. trust me, i've tried).

This site is bomb and so is Miriam.

Dear Diary

Remember that song by Britney? It was alright...
You know what's better than that song?
This site.

pea-NUTS!

Is there anything better than Charlie Brown and the gang? If this had been a week ago, before I was showed this site, I would have responded to that question with a resounding "HELL NO!"

But this?

Well this changes everything.

Kickin The Peanuts is a music blog (updated daily with free downloads) full of old classics, new remixes and all around bad-ass good shit. Sounds lovely yet standard, right? Just wait.

The music is catalogued and organized according to the musical tastes of Charles Schulz’s Peanuts characters, whose taste in music is clearly just as diverse as any of ours.

same same, but different

I haven't really been able to get over this Same Hill, Different Day project by Paul Octavious. His concept is straightforward; go to the exact same spot and take a picture, with a different result every time.
WELL! the results are beautiful and make me want to fly a kite.

beckerbabes

Ive been a fan of the Beckermans and the Beckerman brand for quite some time, but only recently came across their blog. Written by sisters Callianne, Samantha and Chloe, the blog chronicles the outfits of the three designers and their friends, which needless to say, are amazing.
Clothing can not be considered fashion until someone ups the ante and infuses some life into it. The girls create all their own textiles each season which ensures something completely new, fresh and alive. Their fun approach to fashion is something that should be celebrated(!) and their blog not only consecrates their own designs, but their own personal style.

Living in Toronto (particularly in the dark and dreary winter months) can be incredibly depressing and monotonous. For a city that's so multicultural, diverse and full of life, I'm constantly amazed at how vapid and effortless people's outfits can be. The Beckerman's blog is fun and INSPIRING and breathes some energy back into every day dressing.

Whaaaat the february

Another one i lurve. The Unknown Hipster started out when (an incredibly talented) French guy moved from Paris to New York and created an alternate persona known as "The Unknown Hipster". Self described as that guy who "appears at Fashionable and Cultural events without being necessarily on the list", he puts a different spin on the traditional fashion blog. Instead of photographs, he opts to draws his own depictions of the events he attends and/or the goings-on around him.  His colourful sketches (and paintings, on a good day!) document his encounters in the world of fashion and art.

Everyone knows him, yet no one knows who he is. Brilliant!

garance, j'taime.

Happy hump day, ya'll.

I've been trailing Garance Doré since the first time I saw her featured on the Sartorialist about two years back. After discovering her own blog, I continue to be constantly filled with girlish envy every time I find myself perusing her photos and illustrations. Her effortless style and her ability to spot the subtleties in the style of others puts such a smile on my face. In fact, I can only imagine that if I were to meet her I would be so overcome with nervousness and giggles that it would completely knock down the wall of coolness that I have spent the last 21 years of my life trying to build up.

See for yourself!  http://www.garancedore.fr/en

I like looking at the French version of the site. It makes me feel frilly and fancy.

"Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler." -Albert Einstein

I found this blog called simple song that I really love. It's a catalogue of simple, lovely things that are meant to inspire. It really is just lovely! Thank you Bill Withers for giving me the perfect song to listen to on this lovely, lovely, LOVELY occasion :)

The author of the blog is a letterpress designer and printer. Pretty neat to see some of his inspiration and where his idea's begin to bubble. To see his work go here.

gettin' nasty

Don't get me wrong, Scott Schuman is my boy. His updates always (always) bring a smile to my face, and drive me to the edge of absolute sartoriaLUST. In fact, it is with great thanks to him that I have recently redirected my love and affection to a new blogger/street style photographer. After recently buying Schuman's book and spending hours flipping through the pages, putting post-its on my faves, and googling the few subjects he chose to discuss, I found Sophie Arancio.

She makes me wish i hadn't dropped french after grade ten... or had at least paid attention up until that point. The blog http://www.nast-magazine.fr/ is entirely en français, but that hardly matters. It's simply a reminder that regardless of diction, discourse or dialect, fashion has the ability to transcend so many boundaries: particularly language.

love her love it loveyaaaaaa

A Serious Banger

I am a self proclaimed anti-marriage, wedding loving gal.

While I do not necessarily see myself getting married, I'm not entirely apposed to the idea of this social institution. The decision for a man and a woman to establish themselves, and to live as husband and wife by legal commitment, a religious ceremony, etc, is great if that's what you're into... just not really for me. I'm more into the fun stuff that goes along with the wedding process.

Thanks to TLC, I've been known to spend hours at a time agonizing over whether or not the gang at Kleinfeld's will be able to make that bride-to-be say YES to the dress.  And if making fake registries at Tiffany's, Crate and Barrel and William Sanoma is a crime, then lock me up and throw away the key.

Lately I've been really hooked on wedding blogs, particularly Max Wanger.  Instead of the posed, fake and cliché wedding/engagement pictures you normally see, his pictures are so real and beautiful and make me want to jump into my computer screen and hug these couples who are so in love, and are generally really good looking in an indie and alternative kind of way.

Take a look for yourself. I dare you to look at these pictures and NOT smile.
